The Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Enforcement (ABC) arrested eight former employees of Greenlight Dispensary in Helena, Arkansas, for their roles in diverting medical marijuana through fraudulent transactions. The investigation revealed that patient allotments from elderly, deceased, or incarcerated individuals were misused, and unauthorized individuals were allowed to purchase cannabis products illegally.
Seven suspects face charges of obtaining drugs by fraud, a Class D felony under Arkansas Code Title 5, while former police officer Greg McDaniel was charged with additional felonies, including unlawful use of a communication device. McDaniel has since resigned from the Helena Police Department.
This case underscores challenges in medical marijuana compliance, with fraudulent cannabis transactions undermining trust in Arkansas's regulated cannabis market. Greenlight Dispensary terminated the implicated employees and affirmed its commitment to patient safety and regulatory integrity. The investigation remains ongoing.
